Orthopedic Physiotherapy

When dealing with joint or muscle pain, orthopedic physiotherapy focuses on improving movement and reducing pain through manual therapy, exercises, and movement retraining. Some of the conditions treated include:

  • Joint pain: Easing discomfort in knees, shoulders, hips, and other joints.

  • Tendonitis: Helping reduce inflammation and discomfort in overused tendons.

  • Frozen shoulder: Restoring mobility and alleviating stiffness.

  • Plantar fasciitis: Addressing foot pain to improve comfort and mobility.

  • Tennis elbow: Reducing pain caused by repetitive strain on the forearm.

  • Sciatica: Relieving nerve pain in the lower back, hips, and legs.

  • Post-surgical rehabilitation: Assisting in regaining strength and mobility after surgery.

A customized treatment plan provides the best chance to restore function and return to daily activities with less pain.

Intramuscular Stimulation
(IMS/Dry Needling)

Chronic pain can be difficult to manage, but Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) offers a way to relieve tension in tight muscle bands. Developed by Dr. Chan Gunn, IMS uses fine needles to release these tense muscles, improving posture and reducing pain. It’s an effective approach for:

  • Chronic back and neck pain

  • Sciatica

  • Shoulder and hip pain

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction

IMS, combined with manual therapy and movement exercises, is tailored to each patient’s specific condition and needs.

What To Expect at Your First
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Appointment

Your initial visit will last 60 minutes. Prior to your assessment you will receive a series of questionnaires that will help the physiotherapist understand your situation, and what caused you to seek treatment. In order to evaluate and treat for pelvic floor dysfunction, the physiotherapist will assess the full body including posture, alignment, breathing, as well as function and strength of core/abdomen. Depending on the situation, after discussion and consent from patient, there may be a need for an internal pelvic (rectal or vaginal dependant on anatomy) examination.

Lastly, you will be given plenty of information regarding the findings of your assessments, and a treatment plan with strategies to help you start to improve your quality of life. Exercises are the bread and butter of the physiotherapy experience so you can very much expect your physiotherapist to give you some homework!
