CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Chiropractic care aims to correct vertebral subluxations caused by abnormal spinal alignment and movement through chiropractic adjustments. By ensuring proper alignment and movement, chiropractic may slow down the process of spinal degeneration (arthritis), and help with several conditions such as:
-
Intervertebral disc injuries;
-
Back pain (lower-back, mid-back and neck pain);
-
Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction;
-
Sciatica;
-
Knee and hip pain;
-
Headaches and migraines;
-
TMJ dysfunction.
Since your spine protects one of your most precious assets—your nervous system—proper spinal alignment through chiropractic care is also vital to your optimal health. When your body is misaligned, the information that travels from your body to your brain and from your brain to your body may be distorted, making you more susceptible to injuries and reducing your overall function and health.
Prenatal
Chiropractic Care
A woman’s spinal alignment plays a significant role in the birthing process itself. Abnormal spinal alignment and movement may contribute to a more difficult labour for the mother (dystocia), which may affect the length, comfort, and level of complications of the birthing process.
The uterus attaches to the pelvis via key ligaments; therefore, any asymmetrical changes in the woman’s pelvic alignment also affect the tone of these ligaments and may create torsion in the uterus, which in turn may restrict the baby’s ability to get into the best position for birth. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces nervous system stress, balances pelvic bones, muscles and ligaments and optimizes pelvic function in pregnancy and birth.
Post-Partum Chiropractic Care
Pregnancy and birth are both beautiful and natural processes of life, but during the nine months of pregnancy and the birthing process, a body will go through many changes, not to mention the physical demands and postural stressors that often come with caring for infants and young children, such as:
-
The release of relaxin during pregnancy, a hormone that increases the ligaments’ laxity to help prepare the body for the birthing process, thus making the spine and pelvis prone to instabilities.
-
Postural and gait changes as the baby and belly grows, and their centre of gravity moves forward.
-
Displacement of the pelvic bones to accommodate the passage of baby during the birth process.
-
Poor posture and ergonomics during feedings and uneven loading during our day-to-day activities (such as lifting the car seat, carrying young children on our hips, etc.), which can lead to postural deviations, general muscle tension, vertebral subluxations and pelvic misalignments.
Supporting New Parents
Chiropractic care helps to support postpartum recovery and transition into parenthood by correcting subluxations which reduces nerve interference (stress on the nervous system), allowing for proper spinal alignment, improving mobility, reducing muscle tension and reducing postural deviations.
Through spinal, pelvic and extremity adjustments, soft tissue release, home recommendation and education, chiropractic may help with:
-
Pelvic pain (sacroiliac and pubic symphysis dysfunction);
-
Back pain (lower-back, mid-back and neck pain);
-
Hip pain;
-
Sciatica;
-
Headaches and/or migraines.
Paediatric Chiropractic Care
Why is paediatric chiropractic care so important? Seeing a chiropractor at a young age—particularly? within the first two years of life—is especially important since a child will experience the most physical and neurological growth during that time period. In fact, the spine will develop its primary and secondary spinal curvatures in the first year of life, which in turn will have an effect on future bone growth and function, and the spine itself will experience its greatest growth by age two. During the same time period, the brain will grow 2.5 to 3 times its birth size in the first year of life and reach 80-90% of its adult volume by age two. This is an incredibly important time period of growth in a child, and paediatric chiropractic care can help support a healthy development
Signs That Indicate That an Infant or Young Child Could Benefit From Chiropractic Care Include:

-
Torticollis or a noticeable head preference (tendency for the baby to either tilt or turn their head to one side)
-
Restricted movement of the head or neck
-
Overarching of the back when laying down
-
Difficulty nursing on one side
-
General fussiness for no apparent reason

-
Facial and cranial asymmetries
-
Jaw deviation
-
High or low tone presentation
-
Tethered oral tissues (TOTs)
-
Delayed developmental milestones
